Hey guys!

Hoping I can get several folks to chime in on this thread. I recently cycled my first tank with Fritz RPM salt and I am about to need to order more. What is everybody’s favorite salt to use and why? I’m perfectly fine with using RPM salt in the future, but was hoping to get some insight on anything that might be better. Thanks.

Fritz blue box salt has very ideal specs and that is why I ordered 2 cases on sale. It had a ?problem? recently according to some but every salt has had problems over the years.

Otherwise I use and would use again regular io. By far the most popular salt. The higher alk is a great way for newish tanks to replenish it and otherwise other specs are decent.

But once u get going picking a salt closer to your running specs sure makes life easier.

My favourite is red sea blue bucket, but really I'd only purchase it if I was starting a new tank, or it was on sale when I was completely out of IO. Instant Ocean on sale blows any other salt out of the water as far as it's price. The reason I like the red sea blue bucket is it mixes clear quickly and more importantly has a reasonable alkalinity.

Using HW Marine Reefer Salt. Nothing scientific here. I find it mixes clean, no residue in storage tanks after 6 months, I like the parameters and my tank seems good so far. Also, like the bag/box it ships in as well...seems more compact.

I was considering change since it's higher end on price and many salt mixes store really well if you periodically run pumps. But then I thought...I'm worrying about a couple bucks a month difference? So I'll stay unless a clear benefit elsewhere justifies the change.

When it comes to Tropic Marin do not buy Bio-Actif unless you understand what you are getting into. FYI.

Well, I use Reef Crystals. I have considered Tropic Marin which sounds really good. But any of the popular and reputable mixes will work. If you look at people who have incredible corals, you will find a wide variety of mixes used. The important variable is not the mix but the reefer.

Instant ocean for decades with great success.

Use whatever salt you and your tank likes (and what your budget will allow!) All of the top brands work well.

I have used IO,RC,RSCP,RSBB and now I use aqua forest which is not bad mix’s fast and match’s my tank. So I am happy with it so far

Thanks for all the replies guys. I appreciate the insight. I’ll probably try a couple different brands and see which I like best. So far Fritz has worked well.
