Feather duster care

Ok the nitrites were 1.0 how long will that take to turn to nitrate?
The bacteria that turns ammonia into nitrITE is different from the bacteria that turns nitrITE to nitrATE. If you are seeing nitrates, that means that the bacteria that turns nitrITE to nitrATE is there. So it should take maybe a day to go down.

Ok thanks I can confirm there is a level of nitrates present around 30-40 with test strip accuracy

That's great! Then wait for those nitrites to dissappear. While waiting, do a decent size water change to get those nitrates down, then you're good to go! Any ideas on what your first fish will be?

Really hoping to find a long fin ocellaris near me

@ISpeakForTheSeas I have some more info about these little guys. They do not have a calcified tube it’s the other parchment-like consistency. Not much but I hope this helps

That helps a bit - honestly though, a magnification tool like a jeweler's loupe or microscope would probably be needed to nail down an ID here at this point, as I'm not well versed in specific species of feather dusters yet (so I have to rely on taxonomy keys instead of more obvious visual cues to distinguish them).

Update: Feather dusters have been doing well and have gotten noticeably bigger. I just want to make sure I'm not overfeeding them. I been feeding 5ml of live phytofeast daily. I think this might be too much, thoughts? Also wondering what will happen to uneaten phytoplankton, will it help algae grow?

Don't worry about overfeeding them. Adding extra phyto does no harm and they only eat what they need.
