Hello, I hope this is an okay place to post this because I don’t consider feather dusters to be coral really, they feel more “alive”
My duster lost his crown this morning, and I can’t see an obvious reason why to start so I started reading and thinking as to why he’d pop it off.
he’s still in the tube as far as I can tell and he had two crowns coming from one tube, as they each had a distinct “mouth”
possible issues are
some water param fluctuations as I added some very unhappy cabbage last night and it’s only looking marginally better this morning, and I’ll do a wc asap but I have no water as of today
OR
not getting enough to eat (I’m dosing LIVE phytoplankton but I was only doing like 2 tsp once a week, sometimes less) so I think perhaps I’m under feeding and it’s time to step up how much he’s eating by dosing more often or more at a time.
Besides not liking his placement (he’s been there for almost a month and rooted to the spot) which I can’t fix since he’s rooted, the only other contender would be my cleaner shrimp, who I’ve seen sit on him occasionally and pick at him- I don’t know if he’s just curious or if this is him “attacking” the duster, which I seriously hope not because I want the duster and the shrimp.
I really love FDs so I’m going to wc and up the feeding and see how he does, I’ll assume he’s going to regrown his crown but they say that once they lose it once they’re bound to do it again and I seriously don’t want to lose him.
im posting this looking for others thoughts/advice anything I can do to up his chances of happiness in my tank
stock: midnight clown juvi, cleaner shrimp, soft corals, hammer frag, nassarius snails, cleaner shrimp, clown goby, hifin goby, regular pests (bristles, aptasia etc)
bio cube 32 w standard lighting on for 5-6 hours, blue for 1-2 off
Nitrate/nitrate; ~5-10 ppm/0ppm
Ammonia:0
Ph:~8.0-8.1 (dosing 8.4 slowly to raise)
Salinity is 1.025
And I don’t have a way to measure any of the crazy in depth stats like mag, etc
