I'e done some looking around on various forums and it seems from time to time people identify these as feather dusters that live in the Favia. No one ever seems to have much info beyond that though. It certainly looks like a feather duster and reacts to changes in light like one. It has a spiral tube going into the favia skeleton.

In my case, I've had this frag 4 months before I noticed it, and I noticed it at a point when the Favia tissue in the area was receeding.

My questions are:
Is this a feather duster? Is it a typical filter feed only type, or is it parasitic to the coral? Is likely to kill the coral? Can it survive without the coral (if I frag the the Favia to relocate the worm)?

Any input from someone who has seen this happen before is appreciated.

I have several Acans with feather dusters coming out of them. They have never caused any harm. It can survive without the coral, however, if you break its tube/injure the worm it may not recover.

I would just leave him there :)

Thanks for sharing your experience @Dsnakes . He's such a pretty red. Just wish he was a against a background that made him easier to see. You're right though, probably slim odds i could extract him without damaging the tube.
