Anything I need to look out for? I know they can regrow it, but what do I need to do to ensure it's still alive? Has only been in tank about a week.

Is there a worm attached to the feathers?? I've never heard of them "losing their head".

Only that they will ditch their tube and regrow it around themselves elsewhere.

Don't bother it, and just make sure it doesn't make unfortunate friends with a power head or pump

Is it like a long worm??

my tuxedo urchin cut of the feather duster head and wore it like a crown for a few days. Is there anything in the tank that could be bothering it?

The tank is pretty docile. Cleaner shrimp, 2 hermits, 3 snails, and a YWG/tinyyy pistol shrimp combo.

Your story made me laugh by the way

The worm part kinda looks like a bristle worm.

Also they can definitely regrow the crown, and sometimes they even have new colors, just double check your water quality to make sure everything is okay. Sometimes they will drop their crowns when stressed.

So he's still alive. When lights were out this morning I saw something peaking out of the tube. 5 mins later it was back in. So I'm just assuming it was the worm.

My feather duster did the same thing. My girlfriend told me they regrow that part. I can confirm that they do, even after I moved it from one tank to another :-)

Just need to be patient with him and keep your water parameters clean. They throw the crown for lots of reasons, notably stress and as a reaction to perceived predation (like a lizard will drop its tail to get away). Good luck, I'm a big fan of feather dusters. [emoji120]

It will grow back, it's normal for the worm lose it crow in a new tank cause of stress and different water parameter. if it doesn't like the location you try to keep it then it will leave its tube and make new one somewhere else and it usually lose it crown while doing that.
