Hello everyone,

Is this normal for the FD to do? Below I have some pictures.

It is normal for them to filter feed as this one is doing. They should be buried at least a few inches deep in sand/rock to give them structural support so they can open fuller for feeding, etc., ime

They aren’t very strong so maybe burying them or gently placing some rock rubble around it might support it.

How about now?

Personally I would bury it deeper, surround it with some rubble or place it next to a rock that it can attach to. As you know, feather dusters are worms living in a very flexible tube like structure; they need support to stand upright and catch more food, avoid being overgrown, etc.

I feed mine Oyster Feast, phyto and every now and then stir up sand to provide detritus, bacteria and other microorganisms. Sometimes they will relocate or reproduce to/reappear in other parts of your tank, btw.

Good luck, I think they add visual diversity and are interesting in their own right.
