Hi all,

I have three feather worms in my tank which I have had since feb, and have been doing fine. They have all shown signs of the casts building as the ends of the casts are white with new growth. However, this morning I found that one was emerging from its cast which I have never seen before.

Water conditions are fine and remain steady, the other feather worms are in their casts with just their feather tips out as normal, fish and snails are fine

I have read they do this before they die... please advise if this is the case or if they do this sometimes for other reasons.

Here is a pic of one of ym other 2 feather worms which are fine:

and here is a pic of the (ill?) one which is emerging:

(EDIT: You can't see it from the pic above but the feather heads are still on it and haven't shed)

Something in tank might have disturbed it and/or it is relocating to find different conditions.

Ah I got to the bottom of it, my wife admitted than my 2 year old dropped a spanner in the tank and it landed in the area where the worm in question was. So it must have crushed it.

It's now dead and currently being eaten by my two cleaner shrimp... toddlers!
