I see threads about shipping companies screwing up every once in a while.
It's almost always a weather related delay or equipment breakdown ( jet don't fly).
Stuff that can not be predicted at all.
Then usually several others will jump in and complain about how terrible they were treated and how much money they lost, etc.

Yesterday it looked like I was going to be another victim of a shipping delay.
I was expecting a package from The Coral Dudes ( Addictive Aquaculture ).
I got up around 6am pacific time and logged into FedEx tracking and noticed it said my package was in Memphis at 5:20 am. I though oh oh. This isn't going to be good. It should be in Seattle around this time.
So I waited a hour or so to see if there were any updates. There were none so I called FedEx to try and see if there was a glitch in the tracking system.
The person I spoke with informed me there was a problem with the jet and all the packages ( not just mine) were delayed.
I explained ( while being very polite ) that there was a pretty good chance that a couple hundred dollars worth of coral was going to die if it wasn't delivered inside the usual 24 hours we have come to expect.
I must have had someone that knew about the hobby or cared for anything live, because she said she would see if anything could be done. Then she asked if I could accept a late delivery. Of course.
I really didn't expect anything, especially after not hearing from anybody all day.
So imagine my surprise last night about 8:30 when there was a knock on my door and there was this gentleman holding a small insulated shipping box. No FedEx truck. It looked like a personal car.
Someone in Memphis had put a Same Day shipping airbill on my package and made sure I got it.
So from Memphis at 10am my time to 8:30 last night in Olympia Washington.
So, that was above and beyond normal customer service.

Finally a positive ending to a shipping story! Thanks for sharing.

Usually if you are polite you will get a good response from fedex. Its when you flip out on the person on the phone who could not have prevented this in the first place that you get what you get which is a person just getting off the phone with you. Here where I work we repair fedex planes so I can tell you fedex never has a problem with a plane lol :D

I had a similar thing occur. Only the system had lost track of my package so customer service had no idea when the package would arrive. Well the normal delivery time of 1030 passed and no box. I call again to inform them that the box missed the deadline and to see if it had been found. No luck. So I figured it was a lost cause. Well around 7 pm a guy pulls into my driveway in a regular car. It turns out the package arrived on a late delivery and would have normally gone out the next day but because it was marked as live the worker delivered it on his own time.

My anemone arrived one day late & they called me that my package wont be delivery until Monday.
I end up go to up it up myself
at the last fedex destination.
The shipper told me that fedex stated that the container that my package in was overload therefore they have to delay

Shipping is what killed my love for livestock buying. Last year I ran into a bad stretch of shipping issues from UPS and fedex.

The final straw was when I got tracking updates showing they attemtped delivery and no one was there to accept even though I was standing there staring at the road....more than once!!!
