Feed a Nem?

My RBTA (about 9-10 inches) gets spectrum pellets the first part of the week (pre soaked in garlic and ammino omega) and rogers reef food the second part of the week. I use to feed silver sides, but went to other methods. You can feed once to twice a week. Try feeding it small chunks (half the size of the mouth) of silver sides or frozen mysis and once a week to start. After a few weeks, try feeding at the begining and end of the week. Twice a week is as much as I would go. Just judge the nem when feeding it. It may only eat once. If the nem dosen't take in the food and just drops it (dosen't close up on the meal) after a few minutes, the nem might not be hungry and you'll only have to feed it once a week. Good luck.

Thanks! Good info.

If you have sufficient lighting, there is no need to feed a nem. I have a 12" carpet nem, and used to feed it whole shrimp that were de-tailed, a begginer mistake as it never ate it and became unhealthy. Dont worry, hes healthy now.

I feed my two rbta a silverside or some frozen krill about one time a week. They seem plenty happy and are nice and bright metallic pink...and only a few months ago I had one. Mine are about 18 - 20 inches from my 250 w metal halide.

I read a study somewhere that stated nems have the best survival rate with feeding times between 1 every two weeks to twice a week. I've had my rbta for two years now and it split once on me and they are doing better than ever. Even after going through 5 aquarium moves (overhauls) in about a years time.

Edit: where I said highest survival rate I meant length of life in captivity.
