The first is the reefoctopus LX1000S protein hob skimmer,? The second reefoctopus bh90 hob skimmer. This is the problem I chose to make my quarantine tank I was setting up as a community tank and I feel it needs a skimmer. The above filters were recommended to me. The LX1000S was suggested by my lfs for my 30 gallon cube? The Bh90 was suggested by a rep at Bulkreef supply as well. I researched the bh90 and it is rated for a 130 gallon tank. The LX1000S is rated for a tank of 100 gallons.. The LX1000S is an older filter it seems like also.. I'm new to the hobby and just want to do it right from the jump that's all. I need some help pleas.

Hob skimmers can be hit or miss.
Use a skimmer rated over your water volume.
I have many hob skimmers that are not in use now for many reasons.
The number one in my book is the pump.

The 30 gallon does not have a sump nor can I put one in either cabinet was not design for one underneath. So any recommendations than the two I named?? So the reefoctopus bh90 rated for 130 gallons would be ok or too much? or the reefoctopus LX1000s rated for a 100 gallon tan.. or do I even need one on a 30 gallon tank?? So many questions..

Well for skimmers it can never be too big.
What a skimmer will do is help remove the DOC's in your water which may end up as excess no3.
Now if you are diligent with water changes you may be able to get away without one.

Not trying to make the hobby more difficult than it needs to be here twilliard. We are all busy with kids some of us on here and tend to now and again miss things here and there lol. So with that said do u recommend a hob filter that I can use for the 30 gallon cube.or btwn the 2 I have mentioned which one would be suitable skimmer??

I have read that if a skimmer is too big it will not skim properly correct??
No a skimmer that is too big will just remove more as you are able to control the skimmer.
For instance, I use the Orphek Helix 5000 on 80 gallons of water. I can control it in every aspect as needed. (Specs are on Orpheks site) up to 645 gallons.
Now for this same 46g tank i have before the sump was added i used the nac5e external skimmer for about 2 years.
I understand you about family! I have and am raising 8 kids :-)

Twilliard thanks a bunch lol get haha. God bless u n your family ur a blessed man congrats to u n the miss. I read about your filter u had any issues with the nac5e? Seems alot of people did

The nac5e is a great skimmer!
The only issue i had about it was the pump.
So here is the gripe about it..
The pump is external from the water. In return the pump runs hotter than a pump within the water.
This heat from the pump causes calcium buildup within the pump. I had to take the skimmer out, remove the pump and remove the buildup off of the pump shaft.
It did become a pain.
Also the pump was noisy and was easily cavitated during startup.
I still have this skimmer to the day but now it grows dust.
Excellent at doc removal but high maintenance

Also thank you, i am 41 now retired and 5 kids left at home. I absolutely love all my children and my wife.

Hmm so am better off getting a pump either in the housing or one That goes in the water then oh dang the choices and pros and cons

i would go with the HOB Reefoctopus 100 for the 30

Big fan of the reef octopus brand from dealing with their customer service. Sorry don't know much about those skimmers, but I believe there is a guy named Jeremy who works for them on the forum who you can probably pm.
