updates

Got some updates which should be taken in the next time you start the program up. Here they are:
- Blank values can be used for any field
- Added potassium as a parameter to track
- Added annotations to allow specific details to be tracked
- Updated parameter validation since old solution was not viable

Let me know how it goes. I am still working on the importing of files and multiple tanks.

Added some new updates:
- Excel files can now be imported (please please please read the instructions on the format on how to do so - there is a menu item to find the instructions)
- New tabs added to describe magnesium and potassium for aquariums

The things I need to work on is error handling since I know the program gets finicky if there is a bad save and also some threading to make it run smoothly. Let me know how this version works out.

For now can you make backups of the data.log file once in a while so all your data is not lost until I modify the save code to properly handle errors?

Thanks,
Mike

Added new fixes:
- Excel files properly close after loading data
- Data is now preserved if there is an error and rolled back properly

Let me know how everything is running. Also, let me know of any more features to add. I am now going to implement multiple tanks.

Also, when importing files the only required field is the date one (in the correct format: 1/6/2012 8:41:38 PM, etc). You can leave the other columns blank if you do not have old data for that specific column. Just remember that in the annotation field you NEED to replace ',' with '%%COMMA%%' and '"' with '%%QUOTE%%' (comma and a double quote).

Multiple tanks can now be tracked. Next I will be adding the ability to change the units for certain parameters.

I also think I understand the lines not being visible on the graph. The graphing functionality comes from a third party so I don't completely understand how it operates but if you right click the graph it gives you options to 'Undo All Zoom/Pan' and 'Set Scale to Default'. I think the one that needs to be clicked on is the first one since I believe the second option will set that specific zoom rate as the default one, which might cause values out of that range to not be displayed.

I was wondering (so that I would not miss anything) if people would be so kind as to post all the parameters that can be measured with different units so that I can incorporate that into the program.

Thanks,
Mike

Alkalinity and salinity can now be toggled between different units. You can find that ability under the Data Management menu.

I dont have a MAC to program on....I was going to try and integrate the program with a site. Going that route might even eliminate the need to have an application.

I might learn how to program an android app since 1) its free (unlike programming an apple app) and 2) its similar to java (which is primary language). Let me look into seeing how viable it is.

Thanks,
Mike

Web Applications are definitely a good way to go. Work on all platforms. Let me know if you need an Assistance. I am a Computer consultant/Website designer.

Thanks for the offer. I can program sites but if youre good at graphics then that would definitely help.

Just wanted to let everyone reading the thread know I finally have something use-able (sp?) for a website instead of having to rely on a piece of software made for windows machines :). The site is here: Aquarium Data. I know there are a lot of things missing like:
1 - Account management (changing password)
2 - Graphs (been hard to get working correctly due to software limitations)
3 - Import feature (so that old data can be transferred in)

But for just plain old not relying on excel sheets to store tank information the site will do the job. Still free as always. Check it out and let me know if there are any problems as far as just storing data. You can use the e-mail address on the site but I prefer the one everyone has been contacting me with so far or through PMs on this site since I have not set up the other address on my phone.

TripsterAK if you have any idea(s) for graphics that could be added to the site let me know.

Mike

Graphing functionality is now on the site. Next, I will be targeting account management and importing old data.

ttt for all those that need an easy and free solution to getting rid of excel files or good old paper and pen :)

Thanks need feedback in order to fix things. :)

I am still on the road but will be home tomorrow night.

In regards to new entries being displayed I did notice a weird bug that happened when I tried to go to a page and enter in new parameters. For some reason if I entered in another entry or refreshed the page the first entry displayed so that will be fixed when I get home.

As a sanity test I created a new account to see if there were issues there. Once you create an account you then need to create a tank that the entries will be associated with. Once that is complete you can then add entries related to your parameters. I was then also to replicate the behavior described previously but the entries were definitely being saved and you can view them in the grid or in a graph using the links when signed in. The default behavior of the page is to display the grids so whenever you want to see graphs associated with a tank you need to first switch to it and then click the graph link. I will also add information on the first page about any system requirements for the site since it is using Javascript objects and it needs to be enabled.

It may help if you describe exactly what you are doing in steps so I can replicate that behavior on the site.
