So I’m a few weeks away from setting up my 90g DT. My dead rock (dry for 12 years) is sitting in a 10:1 ratio of water to bleach. Been there for about a week. I’m gonna pull them out and rinse them off. Let them dry then soak them in ro-di for a few days then salt water. And into the display tank.
I have purchased 2 bottles of bio-Spira to aid in introducing bacteria in the dt. Since my rock is dead. I’m still looking for an ammonia source to feed the bacteria. It’s hard to find here in Canada. And my lfs or big als doesn’t seem to have anything.
I’ll be buying a new 30g tank for the sump.
I just cleaned up my old 30 gallon with hot water and vinegar. And wiped it down with 99% isopropyl alcohol to disinfect. It’s drying now smells nice and clean no alcohol smell. That stuff evaporates faster than you can wipe it down.
The 30 gallon is a quarantine tank. In the past (12 years ago) I never quarantined. But reading forums and the horror stories has me a firm on setting this up. For fish.
I was thinking of setting up the quarantine now and begin quarantine of a couple clown fish for the 70+ days. I’m planning on buying a few sponges and some more bio-Spira to seed the bacteria.
And in the mean time have my dt cycle until the fish are done quarantine. I was watching a video of a dr. Tim interview where he said adding beneficial bacteria products and adding fish right away is okay. This just seems off to me but who am I to argue with a micro biologist.
My plan is to leave the fish for a couple days until I make sure they are eating and begin a Prazipro treatment. Then copper for a month.
Qt will have a cheap hob filter, old maxi jet pump or air stone. I have both.
Any thoughts? Is this a sound plan? Critiques, suggestions are welcome. Stuffs changed so much since I was last In the hobby.
On a side note. I’ve “slowly” been purchasing new equipment.
Reef octopus 150int classic skimmer
Jebao dosing pump
2-viparspectra led lights
I have my temp controller and contactor for my heaters.
Parts for the ato are coming.
I originally was gonna do a fish only system but that quickly changed. Lol
