What does everyone think about going to a bait shop and buying live shrimp to feed to a big hungry trigger that I have? He’s in his own tank. Are there any possible parasites or problems I could bring in on a freshly caught live shrimp? I understand wild fish can have flukes etc. but not sure about shrimp.

What do you think?

I suppose disease is possible, but only a slight risk. With its own tank, assuming fish only, that's probably pretty safe.

You can also use frozen uncooked shrimp from a grocery store.

What kind if trigger, out of curiosity?

It is a humu Picasso. I do feed him frozen shrimp. I wanted to give him a little bit of a live food, and figured I might try bait shrimp. Around here you can get some monsters. It would be cheaper than peppermint shrimp

He'll love it, as long as the shrimp are not housed in the same system as fish, it's a pretty safe endeavor. Diseases are created by humans and the way the house fish, inverts will not naturally have diseases that will transfer to fish, but fish diseases can hitchhike in if the inverts are housed in the same system as fish. This is real sore spot for me as most lfs are either lazy, stupid, or both; as this is a common practice today.

Thanks! He loves to eat and I hand feed him, he’s got a great personality. I really think he would love some live food

And you’re right, it’s a pretty sore spot for me as well. Out of about 8 lfs within 30 or so minutes from me, I will only ever buy fish from one. The rest are truly embarrassing at times. And I’ve only been doing this for a year and a half

I was more concerned with the ‘wild’ aspect of it, and I’ve heard that wild fish could bring in flukes for example. But the shrimps are pretty fresh, I bet it wouldn’t be too bad. I’ll try one out this weekend and let you know :)
