My research has left me a little confused, so I was hoping to score some wisdom here! (I'm a FW person and this is my first foray into marine stuff).
I'm running a 1.5g jar. It has some rock from an established refugium with coralline algae and a big clump of some sort of macroalgae floating about. I have chaeto and some chunks of live rock from KP Aquatics coming my way.
The goal of this jar is to host a variety of tiny critters that may come in on the newest live rock, for a few months. 'Cuz they're neat. I'm moving back across the country (and will overnight ship everything as well as I can), and once there I will probably upgrade everything to a 7g or something.
Anyway. Unless something pops up on the new rock, this jar is only for micro fauna. Worms, tiny starfish, inverts, etc.. Should I dose a drop of "food" every now and then? What would you recommend, if anything? Or will these critters take care of themselves? Obvs if a small crab or shrimp, or pest anemone shows up, I will offer meat accordingly.
Thank you. Just want to make sure everything is getting enough to eat without overdoing. 100% WC every week, bubbler/PAR38/heater for equipment.

Sounds like a cool project! Be sure to post some pictures.. I would just put a small pinch of food in there maybe a couple times a week to feed any critters and help keep the biological bacteria happy.
The next best thing to the Tampa company that ships it in water. Hoping that I'll be able to keep everything that survives the journey as happy as possible, although I'm still not certain if I'll keep any gorilla crabs, if any appear.
