I am in the process of trying to get rid of itch from my tank whilst doing ttm and 76 days fallow. I was curious to see what everyone suggested , if anything; I can feed my tank? I just have corals and inverts that already don’t really get much food.. but was wondering what I should do other than just let the tank sit? Would coral food suffice for the time being?

The bac don't need any feed, once a cycle is complete going fallow cannot starve it back to uncycled

we have three year fallow threads showing this. Since corals do need feed, it's ok to feed. I haven't heard of fish feed vectoring in disease, so to feed doesn't violate fallow rationale.

The bac will stay able to reduce ammonia in 24hrs as many years as you want to test it. They're still getting fed, even if we don't see how, current fallow oxidation test record is 36 mos. Gentleman left a wet tank of rocks standing in water three years in garage, runs ammonia test, wins, posted it for our cycling thread.

So if I understand this right, my tank will continue to just be okay with waterchanges / top offs and the right amount of light and whatnot? It’s established I’d say and I have tons of life throughout my sump and life rocks. What exactly is Bac?

We always debate what bacteria can and cannot do here lol so I've come to abbreviate bac for bacteria ha/web shorthand

The bacteria that make up your tanks ability to convert harmful ammonia into not harmful nitrate don't need feeding during fallow, if you didn't have pods and corals in the tank (like how people sometimes start fallow just after cycling dry rock setups) then you could just wait the 76 day time and resume normally thereafter.

But since you have those higher-order animals in place, they're active feeders, go ahead and feed lightly during this fallow time. Though I'm sure they'd mainly hold on even if you didn't feed, corals are animals and will be in a starvation mode after 76 days of no feed, so it's best to support them.

It's interesting that your filter system would be fine if you didn't feed, but higher order animals require it so we'll default to what they require.
