Feeding a Fungia???

It's good to vary the diet. Mysis, fortified brine shrimp, small pieces of krill, clam, or squid are all good. Depending on the size of the coral a couple mysis may be all it can handle. If ever you see it see to have a massive release of waste it has been overfed. When feeding coral it's usually best to turn off pumps, powerheads, etc. so there's no flow. Simply drop some food onto the coral. It will move it toward its' mouth and ingest it. You might have to keep fish away during this time as they will steal the food from the Fungia. Placing food close to the mouth to begin with can help with this.

I always target feed my plates with Plankton , Phyto Feast , Brine , Mysis, etc every other day. Once a week it may get a piece of Krill.
if you can get a hold of some rods food, all my LPS LOVES it.

I will try to feed later today and let you know how it goes. I want to make sure my plate it happy and well fed because he is going under the knife (dremmel)in a month or so. I will post pics when I have them.

To my knowledge this will kill the coral but good luck be sure to post updates if it works.

Fragging Fungia is possible, but is difficult. I'd practice on an inexpensive one you don't care much about first. I've occasionally seen frags for sale. The major cause of death is infection. Once the flesh is damaged it easily becomes infected. Using lots of current over the frags can help alleviate the problem, but isn't guaranteed success.

It is possible to frag a plate coral I’ve been thinking about trying it for a while. I’ve seen pics of it done and read everything I could find about it. The one thing I never did see is any info on someone fraging a long tentacle. If anybody knows of this being tried I’d like to hear about it. and as for why.
The idea is to make more. :hammer:
Really for now it is really just to see if I can do it. I got the one I’m going to play with for $20 so if it doesn’t go well I’m not out much. The I idea is to see how this one goes and if it goes well to start propagating some of the nicer ones. Like the metallic orange or red. I will have pics if it works. But for know I need to know my test subject is as happy and healthy as possible.

Plate coral likes to eat. I’m feeding two or three time a week with shrimp from the grocery store chopped into half dime size peaces. It will move them across it’s self and into it’s mouth. At night the feeder tentacles come out over an inch. I will try to get some pics of it feeding soon.
In regards to fragging, I had a small 1.5" plate crack into three pieces in shipping. One piece was a tiny pie slice and I ended up losing it but the other two are healing up really well and re-growing their other halves. Both pieces had a bit of mouth on them and were able to eat, so I think that might be the key. Good luck!
