Not sure if this is the right place to post this question but I'm having issues with nitrate and phosphate. My main elements have been stable for a few months so I decided to try some SPS coral. They were doing fine for a week or 2 then I notice some color loss and STN. My parameters are as follows;

CA:520
ALK:9.8
MAG:1520
NO3: <2
PO4: <.03 (looks like 0 to me)

I just got my salifert test kits for nitrate and phosphate tonight and here are the results below. It's hard to tell by the pictures but I posted my readings above.

I would expect these parameters to higher as I I'm running a 40b with only a HOB 75 gallon marineland biowheel with one side converted to a mini refugium that runs throughout the night and off during the day. I also feed heavy, or so I was told. I target feed reef roids every other day and feed my fish everyday. Below is a picture of the fish food I make which one of these bottles last me about 7-10 days. The bottle consists of 3/4 of tank water, 1/4 of phyto, 1 cube of marine feast, and 3 scoops of reef roids. I use an old red sea scoop from a test kit.

Anyway, my main question is could these low readings be the cause of my reoccurring cyano and the STN of some of my SPS? If so should I feed more, only run the fuge every other day, add another fish or all of the above? I really dont want to dose nitrate yet if I can get there by changing my routine a bit.

Bump, same issue.

I think I may have figured it out. My inpatients and digging have turned up the following article. https://reefbuilders.com/2017/07/08/revisiting-my-elos-tank-after-18-months/

Turns out the problem I have sounds like the same this guy had to a "T". The problem may not lie within the nutrient levels themselves but the fact that I started with dry rock. I guess my next visit to the LFS is going to be to pick up some aged live rock to add into my tank to see if that changes anything.

Other than that I'm still open to other opinions as I don't want to lose my SPS.
