feeding coral...

Want to add some corals into my tank. Just want to know if i have to feed all corals??? and if so what kind of food do you guys use and how many times a day... I want to add a toolstool leather coral, star polyp, frog spawn to start. And also which type of corals need to be fed( LPS, SPS, etc.)

I dont target feed any coral. Feed your fish, then the fish poop and feed the coral. If the LPS are not happy you can help by target feeding them with a turkey baster. Try Rods food or Larry's reef frenzy.

Either is good, many find great success target feeding the coral. Keep an eye on nitrates and phosphates. I'm lazy and have 4 fish total, I feed coral once a week the night of or before my water change. I use reefroids ..... Everything loves it! Reefroids are versatile you can put it in the water column for sps or put it on the coral in a thick paste or a thinner paste. Any suggestions for a good all purpose feed for many types of coral? My fatty Blenny eats the paste off my coral sometimes lol

Like Trido said, I only use fish poop. I find that when I start target feeding I get phosphate issues. What are your nitrate and phosphate levels?

Just watch out for the Green Star Polyp, keep it on the sandbed and away from the rest of your rocks. Unless you enjoy having the equivelant of crabgrass in your tank, because once it is in yor live rock you either deal with it or get new rock,lol

This made me laugh. Its so true. I also feel this way with xenia, encrusting monti's and many other corals. Once an encrusting coral takes off in your tank, no matter how pretty it is, you consider it a weed. LOL
