I have a nicely sized hammer coral that it thriving very well. When I feed it some reef roids (with a turkey baster) it seems to react to it by making secretion of some kind that binds to the food. Once I turn the pump and waver maker back on, It sends streams of it around the tank till it breaks ups. Any idea what this is?

Thanks

If it’s clear in color that means it just is mucus used to get access food off of it, nothing to to be concerned about. If it’s brownish it could just be coral poop

Its clear. And not likely poop, cause it happens consistently and quickly.

Maybe I just need to look into the best way to feed a hammer. I can go back to just adding it to the water (it seems to not like the LSP food that I give my Duncan).

Yeah some can be picky like that, when I feed my torch it does the same thing with the clear mucus like substance and closes up a bit, but comes back about an hour later like nothing

my euphyllia tend to do that as well with reef roids and reef chili, try some frozen like LRS reef frenzy as well. Mine enjoy that more if they can eat it before the cleaner shrimp comes around

I have frozen fish, and the LPS pellets, this coral just doesn't like being fed!

It will grab the food and start to curl in to feed itself, and then it just loses interest. Then the fish and crabs end up having a feast!

stubborn little guy huh, try to hold off direct feeding for a bit and wait till it extends its tentacles, maybe it will help. I dont think its a big problem though and it should be fine regardless.
