Hello,

I am planning on getting a dwarf fuzzy lionfish for a 34 gallon cube tank. I want to train it to eat frozen(dead) food of course but I was just wondering that once he is trained is it possible to feed live every once in awhile just for variety and to give him something to chase? Or will he "revert" back and not want to eat frozen anymore. He will be the only fish in the tank.

Thanks!

If you get it young enough and train to eat frozen long enough, he may not revert back. Always a gamble. Only real way to know is to try, but remember mouth size when trying. Also try with something you aren't willing to loose.

Thanks for the comment! What do you mean try with something you aren't willing to lose?

Sorry, try with something you ARE willing to loose. Not a fish you are attached with.

You have a particular species in mind? Red, yellow?

I don't remember ever having a fish refuse frozen after eating a live treat, especially not a fuzzy.

I don't have a fuzzy, but my Fu Manchu, Antenatta, and Volitans all eat live and frozen things now. Unless you only feed live for a long while, I don't see why they'd revert back.

Let us know what you get, I've had my fuzzy in my reef tank for a while now and he is awesome. Such a character and eats whatever I feed. Hasn't messed with anything in the tank. He just spits water at me when I'm standing in front of the tank.

Thanks again for the replies guys. I know someone who has both a red and a yellow fuzzie. At first I liked the much more rare yellow fuzzie more but now im not sure i may get the red one.

One last question do you think a pair of coral banded shrimp would be able to hang with a dwarf fuzzy or would they just become food?

I don't have a lion but I do have an angler and if I feed him live, he kind of snubs his nose at the next piece of frozen but takes it anyway and is fine, just requires a bit more wiggling.
