I have two clown fish about 1and 1/4 inches long, i know everyone says not to over feed, and i don’t think i do, i feed them once a day with frozen fish food, can’t remember the name.Islice off a chunk about one inch long, 1/4 inch wide at one end and it tapers to a point. I thaw the food in a shot glass with tank water, and stir and chop into small pieces, i pour it in a little at a time and they consume all that doesn’t go to the bottom. I’ve heard that they should eat everything in 2-5 minutes, they finish in much less time, my wife thinks they don’t get enough food, i’m not sure, thoughts

I always liked to feed the fish, my wife and I both fed quite a bit. I never paid to much attention to how quickly they consumed the food but after a few minutes the fish would show less interest. If your nutrients are building then your not over feeding IMO. Two clown fish fed a few times a day is plenty.

IME most fish will eat as long as you continue to feed them. If you notice you ammonia, nitrates and/or phosphates coming up it might be time to cut back feeding.

I would feed them twice as day at least, but I way over feed my fish so I may not be the best person to ask. ;Happy

In my defense, I have Anthia's and everyone everyone has told me to feed them multiple times a day and overfeeding is the best way I have found to deal with Tang aggression and I have several Tangs. I feed a combination of frozen food in the morning, (I use LRS Herbivore Frenzy, chopped shrimp from the deli, chopped Krill, chopped scallops from the deli, PE Mysis shrimp, and clams from the deli) then the Tangs, Foxface, Coral Beauty and one of my Dottybacks get a half sheet of Nori in the afternoon and the others get New Life Spectrum Pellets and then at night, (right before lights out) they all get NYOS Wild Goji pellets.

I also have a refugium and a slightly oversize protein skimmer so I can afford to overfeed without having to worry about high Nitrates and I rarely do water changes, but back to you...feeding them twice a day should not be a problem and they will definitely not complain. :p

My fish get about 15-20 pellets, sometimes more. I feed daily to every other day or two. I alternate between nls and hikari marine herbivore. 4 fish, 2 clowns, tailspot blenny, watchman goby. I have to make sure goby gets some as he only swims near the bottom. Every day or so I skip pellets and feed either reef nutrition brine/roe(couple drops each) or frozen(maybe 1/2" square by 1/8" thick slice. The frozen has too many fines that settle on rocks and elsewhere that fish don't touch, imo

I used to feed a lot then backed down due to a nitrate spike. Now I am feeding only 1.5 cube for total of 21 fish to include 3 tangs and one male squareback anthias. They finished them in about 10 seconds.
