Dead stuff starts to spoil the moment you put it in the water. It's just a matter of time before it stinks. Water temp, flow, critters that may eat or work at the edges of it.
I've been feeding clams for 30 years and have always frozen them first and then cut one up as needed.............it's then broadcast fed to the fish. I refrigerate what isn't used that day for the next. I only feed clams/mussels once a week at the most.
I do this with all fresh seafood..........you can also just buy frozen bags of raw seafood. I mainly do this with scallops cause it's a lot less expensive.
Are frozen clams like below as nutritional as fresh clams such as little neck clams from seafood market? I like these because they’re the perfect size for my CBB and moorish idol and easy to pop out the meat to feed with tweezers.
I use fresh clams. l the ittle neck clams I have lived for a few months. The minute they died my hermits and snails where all over it and had it cleaned up in a couple of hours.
The ones for fish food I throw in a blender and use in diy fish food.
