Feeding Snails to Crabs, preventing Ich etc.

Hi, after humanely euthanizing snails, how long do I need to boil them before putting them in my tank for hermit crabs?

I bought some larger cerith snails for the hermit crabs to inhabit if they see fit. I mainly don't want to introduce any ich/parasites into the tank with the new snails, so if I need to do something besides boiling, please let me know, thanks.

yeah they went through about 2 months in an isolation tank (no medication) and have been in my display for about 2 months now

There’s like a million places where you can buy empty shells for hermits for something like 20 shells for $1. Seems like an awful lot of work.

But since you already killed the snails, for ich it’s like 104 degrees for 10 minutes that destroys all phases. You can bring the shells to a boil, turn it off, and then just let them cool down on the stove.

Also, letting everything dry will destroy almost everything we worry about, so throw them in the sun for a day or two to completely dry out.

Thanks, I'll do the 10 min then. I prefer to buy the snails so I can get a larger size than the "packs" and it gives the crabs something "fun" to do.

I guess as long as you and the hermits are entertained and having “fun”!
