I got a blue throat trigger do I just buy clams in the shell and open on and put it in the tank. Is there any chance of putting disease in the tank

I feed mine muscles in the way you describe because they are cheaper than clams where I live. I just rinse them with RO water and drop them in. I did drop a whole clam in once without opening it and it just buried itself in the sand and was there for months.

If they are fresh enough for you to eat they will pose no threat. If you are concerned you can freeze them to kill any potential concerns. It's funny how humans are concerned of feeding human grade food to their fish but have no concern of the ethoxyquin used on the food at the lfs; with the exception of the high grade foods made with human grade ingredients.

I have a blue jaw trigger, I just feed him frozen food, and he's fine. I dont know much about them, except that they are reef safe, and are beautiful fish..

why bother feeding with clams? bluethroat triggers are mostly planktivorous so you can just feed rods or LRS frozen foods
I second that. I've had Picasso blue throat and Niger and they eat everything from pellets to flake and all types of frozen. I like to toss a muscle in once and a while just to see who ends up with it. It usually the Niger or naso
