Feeding yellow tang ONLY nori!

Can a Yellow Tang survive on only nori?

Has anyone done this personally?

Tangs are herbivores and accordingly should do just fine on a veggie diet....although I'd vary nori types. However, I've never had just a tang tank, and when I feed the other fish, the tangs are in there like piranha, eating the "meaty" foods as well.

I feed my yellow tang Nori, Emerald Entrée (Frozen Food), and Flake Food. I have had him for 13 years - so it seems to be working. I don't think plain nori is enough - got to mix it up

When tangs pluck at algae in the wild, they're also picking up anything _on_ that algae, whether it's copepods or crabs, detritus or dung.

But there are many types and varieties of marine plants and algaes other than nori, so feeding only nori is quite analogous to eating only carrots.

I have the tang in QT and he only seems to eat Nori. I put it in before work and its gone when I get home. Ive fed LRS, Mysis, New Life Spectrum, Formula One, Formula 2 and Prime Reef flakes and all that food stays at the bottom untouched. The previous owner fed formula 2, LRS and nori. Im just trying to give the fish a variety of food to eat, so far no luck, just eats nori.
Ive had it in the QT for 7 days now. I have not treated the fish with anything. Just observing right now.

Ahhh, gotcha. I am sure if he is eating Nori now, it is only a matter of time before he starts eating other foods.
