hello everyone my name is john and is new to this site. i've been on a zoo kick lately so this is a dream come true!:marv my question is how do you feed your zoos. some people tell me they spot feed, while others tell me that their get fed when they feed their tank. i've tried spot feeding with mysis and brine shrimp, but my zoos close up and let the food float by. what and how do you feed your zoos?

You don't really need to feed zoo's. But palys and grandis you can feed as they are big enough to take in the mysis shrimps.

I target feed mine golden pearl or powder cyclopeeze from time to time. maybe once a month.

There is actually no scientific proof that Zoanthus zoanthus species actually active feed. While Palythoa and Protopalythoa will and can actively feed, I talked to a guy that used to be on the boards here as well that was or is doing research on zoanthid species and he said that when they cut them open there was no proof that they had been actively feeding on proteins.....I have tried Golden pearls, oyster eggs, cyclop-eeze and have never seen my zoanthids eat. While on the other hand I have seen Palythoas and protopalythoas feed on those same foods. So I quit trying to feed zoanthids and just spot feed the others from time to time....

Thats interisting. I've posted pictures of my pink zoanthid colony previously. They ingest every single thing i give them. If i had to compare to my tank, they eat more than the rest. They often get flake food caught up in them and will retain it until it has all been taken in. I don't know if zoas share thier food, but i have 25% of the colony in 0 direct light and they keep growin. Same thing with some of my palys they are in a 100% shade enviroment in the tank and are flourishing. When i say shade i mean totally under a cave with no direct light ever touching them. I guess i just always attributed it to them eating.

I feed the zoos brine if they take it. Target feed a few and whene the brine hits them and they close up keeping the brine then your good plus they will even multiply faster know there is a steady food supply. Not everyday though.
