Hello, me again.

So looking for opinions on two things.

1. I feed my fish half a block of frozen myssis with garlic 1 time a day. I have 2 ocy clowns some cuc (hermits, cleaner shrimp that I spot feed mysiss, and a pom Pom crab). So is that enough for them? Fish are healthy nice and fat. I used to feed them a full block but ammonia started to creep up so I reduced it.

I have a six line wrasse coming in the mail tomorrow so I'm wondering will the half block be plenty for all 3 fish?

Also should I be feeding 2-3 times a day instead?

Second question, If I add water to the tank (fresh saltwater) withot removing any does it still count as a water change? And will it balance out perameters?

I do weekly normal water changes but I have just made 4litres of fresh saltwater to top up the empty space as I want the water level to be higher. Will it balance the perameters a bit?

Cheers

If the fish eat it all and it doesn’t cause ammonia/nitrate issues, then it’s fine.

I personally alternate feedings of pellets/flakes/frozen, makes it easier if they are used to eating dry foods when you go on vacation. One or two feedings is fine.

Adding more water to the system will dilute any ammonia/nitrate in the system and level your parameters, but not by as much as replacing the water in a water change would.

Thanks for ur response, yeah they eat it all. They used to eat pellets with garlic when I got them until I fed mysiss and they didn't even touch the pellets. I want to feed them a variety of foods but they only accept frozen myssis unfortunately

I am a large proponent of as many feedings a day as possible. I simply thaw a few cubes add some dry coral foods and pellets, and keep this glass on top of the tank during the day. throughout the day I use a turkey baster to put a small amount in the tank. For hardy basic fish like clowns this is somewhat unnecessary but there are still benefits over large bolus feedings.

So if you are topping off with saltwater instead of RO water it can throw off salinity quite rapidly depending on evaporation rates. It is best to compensate for lost water to evaporation with fresh water to avoid increasing salinity. If the water level is too low because you did not fill the tank to its intended level it will be fine to simply add salt water to the desired level. this is not really a water change but the effect is similar. you are essentially diluting the total volume of nitrates and phosphates and other nutrient export. the effect is smaller than a similar water change. but it will not throw off the important coral building parameters.

Thanks, yeah I didn't fill the tank to where I really wanted to, my salinity was too high at 28 so I lowered it over a few days to 25 where I'm happy with it. I'm still getting used to water changes its alot different from freshwater although I've had the tank setup for 8 months I'm still making mistakes but the fish are healthy and still alive so I guess that's the main thing just getting used to keeping the salinity on point. Probably because I don't top up with fw every day and I had to remove the glass lid for the ai prime to fit.

Im getting there though
