Feeling a little frustrated and defeated.

I also have a powder blue tang. It’s a beautiful fish but also incredibly nasty.

I know that my tank has ick. I won’t even begin to deny it. Long ago I used to be like the OP and try to quarantine everything and treat with medication. It is too stressful on fish. Since opting to feed more ( 4xday) I have never lost another fish to disease.

2 years ago it was quite a hot summer and the tank temp hit 30’C. My PBT got a few spots that disappeared about 4 days after I got the temp under control with a chiller. I have never seen spots on a fish since.

My tank has ick, I will not fight it. Instead I focus on keeping happy healthy fish. It works very well for me.

you probably answered this already, but did you quarantine the new fish. Any new CUC or coral?
I did QT my new fish for 6 week
What they had in that picture definitely looks like velvet. Pictures of the fishes’ spots now can help make a diagnosis

I know you are frustrated and tired of doctoring fish instead of enjoying them. The people on this site are an excellent wealth of knowledge and can get you on the right path to a healthy tank.
Yeah, i hear ya. I know that people are trying to look out, but that doesn't help when you do everything recommended and it still doesn't work. I'm back to square one.

I could tell my fish were happier the moment I moved them from the QT to the DT. It's like the spots constantly come and go from the Blue Hippo. I'm just going to try and manage as best I can and see what happens.

Can tell you care a lot about getting the tank healthy.

Sometimes the smallest detail can help pinpoint exactly where the quarantine process failed and help lots of other reefers along the way.

It seems to me that the ick/velvet was successfully treated the first time, but the 4 new fish brought in another parasite (ick and/or velvet).

Where did you purchase the fish from, LFS or online?

I purchase all my fish from the same LFS. I'm pretty sure the Blue Hippo was doing his normal show spots one day, then zero the next day, while the new fish were in QT.
