Feeling bad , gave my flashback basslet back to LFS as was told it would be very calm, slow eating and friendly, got a red scooter and a fire fish , the basslet would not leave them alone ! Nipping , chasing, was distressing (for me too!) they only lived together for around 5 days , should I have waited longer or would it have got worse? Did I do the right thing? To make matters worse I had my 3 year old crying all day because he misses “sunny” (basslet) I did try time out , changed the tank all about to see if helped , didn’t, I do not have any room or money for another tank so that was not an option. I guess I want to know if I was too quick to give up , I was just so worried about the other 2 getting hurt!

This'll cheer you up. My daughter was around your kids age, we had a baby squirrel born in a tree-hole right next to our driveway. Every day I'd boost her up and we'd check in on Gary (must of been a Sponge Bob phase). Anyway, we happened to be outside gardening and out popped that little squirrel for the first time to take in the sunny day. My daughter was thrilled, "Daddy, look!" Before I could even think my German Shepherd snatched Gary in her mouth and snapped his neck right in front of my daughter.
Not a good day (especially for Gary) but we laugh about it now. You did the right thing.

I think it’s funny how you trust the knowledge of where you are purchasing the fish , this wasn’t some brand pet shop but a small specialised place and I really trusted them, will ensure do do my own research from now on!! £30 down n a sad child , bit annoying!Aww that’s the worstI’ve always read that basslet/dottybacks should be added once everyone else gets their territory. I have one in my 25 and he did great with 2 clowns and a 6line wrasse.

That dottyback would have never left them alone and killed them imo. Semi aggressive or larger fish may be fine to add first but a scooter and firefish stand no chance. You certainly did the right thing.

They’re not like kids. You can’t make them behave. Orchid Dottybacks are supposed to be nice but they are from the Damsel family so...Damsels are terrors.
