Hi guys,

started my first tank over a month ago. Finished cycling and was excited to get my first fishes. I went into petco and got 2 clowns. I didn’t know at the time but looking back at videos one was definitely sick with brooks. I just thought it poop hanging on him. I’ve never had fish before so I didn’t know the difference. They both died so fast by the next day and day after that I thought it was just the fish couldn’t adjust to my tank which had good parameters, and got 2 new clowns. They were doing good for a week no issues. Strong and ate like crazy. then noticed one got something white like his color faded with the whiteness all over… not like ich. So I treated for brooks and 1 died in front of me. Feeling like a failure and really stupid cause I should have known better. Other I treated with formalin and in a qt tank now but I just feel like I did everything wrong

Don't beat yourself up over it. I know it's small consolation, but even QT/treatment is no guarantee that a fish will survive. All I can offer is to apply the lessons learned, and if you have any sixth sense that something is amiss with a particular fish - just pass.

As the saying goes: "There are plenty of fish in the sea."

Thanks my man. I’ve seen so many posts seeing those diseases and the fact that I couldn’t decide that it was actually happening bums me out. Just looks different when it’s right in front of your face. Tank will be fallow for the next 2 months and 1 of the 2 fish lived through the initial treatment and is in the qt tank right now. Seems ok so far.

Fallow is probably a good choice to be on the safe aide (and you have a QT available). My tank got velvet last year and I lost 1/3 of my fish in 24 hours, so I can sadly relate. Subject 0 had been quarantined and treated with copper, but it was just one of those strands that got through.

Yeah dude. I was just getting ready to get a Midas blenny literally tomorrow because my boys were responding so well and now this. Felt like the universe telling me to slow down

Midas blennies are awesome - fantastic personality. They love living in barnacles - so try to find a good-sized barnacle/cluster that they can take up residence in.

Can’t wait to get one! Will update you in a few months unfortunately. I’ve only done this for about 2 months so far but I’ve gotten so attached to my fish and shrimp. So happy brooks doesn’t affect my shrimpies. Idk if I coulda kept going
