I sincerely hope I never have a tank this beautiful. I'm sure I would get fired and all my personal relationships will disintegrate as I stare at the tank all day long

Thank you! The eel is just a common snowflake eel, but I really love him too! He has so much personality. He's always got his head out of his burrow/lair during the day and in the evenings he comes all the way out to explore the tank. Its fun to watch him slithering around. He also goes pretty crazy at feeding time, which is a lot of fun. I'm pretty attached to him, so I'll have to end up upgrading my tank when he outgrows it so I can keep him
Thank you! I take all my photos with my iPhone. Most of the photos were with my iPhone 5, but the last set was with my new iPhone 6s. I used to use a real camera, but the iPhones just take such nice photos and its so much easier. I don't do any post processing at all. The only issue is white balance is hard to get right on the iPhone and it picks up the blue lighting like crazy. What I do is switch my Razor light fixture over to manual mode and I change the white and blue channels to a balance that the camera picks up as close to what I normally see in person.

It was time to make my predator food blend again. I go to a local seafood market and get a variety of fresh seafood. I chop it up into chunks, mix it all together, divvy it up into ice cube trays, and then freeze it. This way I can thaw a cube for feeding that has a nice variety of seafood. This time I'm using silversides, salmon, clams, scallops, squid, and prawns. Here's all the seafood I used and a picture of it all chopped up before mixing and freezing.

I just went through your whole thread and I am in awe!! I'm new to saltwater tanks and love looking at everyone's tanks and pictures and I have to say that I love the uniqueness of yours. As others have mentioned your tank looks so much bigger than 40 gallons. And I just love your eel. It's like he is posing for his picture . Thank you so much for sharing all of it with us and you always reply to everyone's comments which i think is so nice. Can't wait to see more.

Glad you enjoyed the thread! I really love documenting the tank's progress, so I feel like the thread is mostly for my record, but its nice to know it can give other people information and inspirationI just went through your whole thread and I am in awe!! I really love the dimensions of the 40B. It really does look a lot bigger than it is! I think its the depth that helps because my 30 gallon, which was the same dimensions except 5" shallower, looked so much smaller than this tank. The eel is so much fun to photograph! He's a great fish so I'm glad you all like him too. I need to get around to taking and posting a new photos! And yes, I usually try to reply to everyone because I love getting feedback and discussing different aspects of the tank. Its always helped me along the way in this hobby.

I was sitting on my couch watching the tank and Mushu, Draco, and Falkor were all right up front begging for food. It was too good of a photo op to miss, so the next thing I know I'm sucked into photographing the tank. Lucky for you guys! I even took a video! Let's start with that!

And since its been a while since I've posted photos of the sump, here it is in all its dirty glory.

Like I mentioned, the fish were being total hams about begging for food tonight. I snapped a bunch of photos and then fed them after they posed for all these photos.
The antennata was being shy tonight. Here she is lurking under the bonsai pillar.
Mushu and Draco were being super photogenic!

Falkor was also being quite the photo model tonight!
I also got a few good shots of the clownfish in their BTA's. I was trying to count the BTA's and I believe we're up to like 8 or 9.
My tuxedo urchin is doing really well and is helping fight the hair algae. He's actually wearing a bunch of hair algae as camouflage
Not nearly as pretty as his tuxedo stripes!
And to finish up, here are some coral photos.

Do you have a cover on the tank? The reason I ask is that I had a moray like that one years ago in a 200 gallon tank. One day he decided that wasn't big enough for him and he slithered up and over the side. We didn't find him for about a week. They aren't like a fish that will pretty much die where they land. He had crawled about 20 feet and died underneath the entertainment center. You said you were attached to him, so I thought I would mention that they do find their way out of the tank. In fact, they are pretty good at getting out. I would put a glass cover on the tank, since it can probably push a light screen top up and slide out underneath it.

I do have a cover! I have a screen lid, which has always been my preference because it helps keep the tank cool and is so much easier to clean. I definitely knew when I got the eel that I had to really think about my lid because they're escape artists. Luckily I don't have any cords or equipment going over the rim of my tank, so the screen lid fits nice and snug with no gaps. Also, I have a lid on my overflow box, so no fish or snails can end up in there. I thought about the fact that the eel could possibly push up the screen lid and slither under since it's so light, so my solution was to add Valero pieces to the bottom of the lid and on the tank rim. Now the tank velcros down to the rim on all 4 corners, which so far has worked great with the eel. I've had him since last May without any escape issues.
Thank you for the information! I didn't know they died so quickly out of water compared to other fish. Is there a reason for that?
