Hi Everyone,

need some assistance on a proper less worrisome protein skimmer for my red sea reefer 250.
I have Reef Octopus Protein Skimmer, model is NW-150, but its way too much for my size tank.

Greatly appreciate help!

Why do you think its too much? I have a skimmer rated for 300 gallons on my 125 gallon tank. Its awesome.
I always need to adjust the dial every so often. Then at times, it doesnt skim and I hear water gushing out of it. Just tired with the reef octopus.

If its new then there’s a break in period. If its old then maybe failed parts or your water level is inconsistent causing overflow etc. i run a 700 gallon rated skimmer on my 108g tank so yours is fine.

Then you might want to check if there are any faulty parts. I recently replace my reef octopus 150 and they works percecrly fine for almost 3 years. I would say check your plumbing on the skimmer and make sure it side on a leveled water no more than 10” i think

Does it have the old adjustment tube design? Also is it in 6-8" of water?

I have a 2010 RO 150NWB and changed out the adjustment tube for the gate valve upgrade over a year ago. Big difference, no more overflows.

yes its the old adjustment tube design, and I have it approx 7 inch of water. Think you right on for the gate valve upgrade :)
