Female Mandarin huge .

Thanks , so you think no need to worry?

Thats actually pretty common with mandarins and I have lost a few to that. They get egg bound and for some reason can't release the eggs which then rot causing what you have.

Are the females okay with each other too, my male is looking around the whole tank for her, when she couldn’t swim towards the end, he stayed by her side for days.
Yep, they all went into the tank together, and the biggest female actually put the male in his place within seconds of him hitting the bottom. Lol but now they are inseparable, they stay in a group for the most part. The male roams the whole 6 ft tank and the females are either with him or down by their feeding/ sleeping area.

Thanks, I assume nothing can be done to help this if it does happen?

Actually there is. If there is no male you can gently remove the fish and squeeze her sides to try to dispel her eggs. The eggs usually will come out but if they are already infected, there isn't much you can do.

Sorry for your loss, even if its a few months later. Sucks to loose such a beautiful fish. I have a psychedelic(spotted) and scooter and they are pretty much inseparable. My male(scooter) wont even eat within 5 inches of my female(psychedelic) and tries to always protect her. Didn't know they could cross like that. I don't even know if they can have babies, but that would be a weird combo LOL. Good to know what to watch out for. Thank you and once again sorry for your loss.
