Nice! I like the fish shots. How did u achieve a perfect black background like that?

thanks :)

a few things that create that effect...one is that the back of my reefer is black, then the narrow DOF helps, but it has been further darkened by using a brush tool and dropping the exposure to 0 around the subject.
you can see with the yellow tang around the top of the dorsal where i have missed a bit. but as you can see it quite dark anyway.

Very cool. Thx for the tips;) I've not yet experimented with fish portraits like that.
I'm guessing u set up a tripod in one spot and wait for the fish to come by? Or are u able to do it handheld?

all hand held with no flash...
i adopt a crouching tiger hidden dragon stance so that i can span most of the tank 4ft and i move around with the fish. a shaolin monk would be impressed with my stance and movement lol.
I'm happy if i get 4 good shots out of 20...but thats the way it goes :)

Very nice.

i use a 105 prime macro and a 17-50 only the wrasse is with the 17-50 rest is 105

Awesome pictures. What are the settings your using to get these?

Nice pics.. To answer a few q's. Every lens has a minimum focus distance. Some macro lens allow a minimum focus distance of 6". This allows you to get up and close to your subject. And the higher the focal length (50mm, 100mm or 105mm etc) the closer you can zoom into your subject.
