This is my 40B cycling at the moment

1xmame skimmer
1xaquaclear70( will turn into refugium)
1xmp10
1x200w hygger heater
Lots of random dry rock
1xhydra 26(will get another)
Standing is from my old aqueon 65

Planning to have a fairly light stocking and for everything in the tank to have a purpose towards maintaing it and maybe 1 centerpiece fish. I am gonna keep it barebottom. Hoping to have a couple sps and the rest lps and softies. Also planning to keep the coral stocking relatively light and just have maybe 6- 8 standout corals.

I've been dosing 2ppm of Dr tims ammonia and now after 24hours 0 ammonia and 0 nitrates. Decided to do 20 percent water change to lower nitrates and added a small amount of CUC.

Turned aquaclear 70 into refugium with chaeto

Set up mame skimmer and have added a bunch of trochus snails and a blue legged hermit

Sweet setup! I would have waited to added the cuc just because there’s not a lot of algae for them to eat so they might starve and die off. Wish I kept my tank bare bottom or went with heavier sand like aragonite lol so much easier to maintain than the regular sand.

Thanks! This is all a while ago. I slowly added trochus over time. I did 4 at first and fed them seaweed until my algae bloomed

8/14-8/16 ish still fine tuning the ATO

I tested the ATO system at some point and when the tube was in the water it back flowed. Good thing I did a trial run. However I didnt think much of the salt water being backflowed into the ATO bucket. This will become important soon.

8/17 added more coral(images are post ATO mishap)

8/19 lets relax and be consistent

As you can see below my salinity is a little higher. No problem I say. My sensor is about to top off and lower it a little. My insomnia is kicking in and my ATO just finished kicking on. Firstly I realize it was not able to finish flilling because the reservoir and pump are too far below the tank. I go to measure my salinity. Its 1.05. Whaaaat!! I check 5x more...how could this be? I check my ATO water. My ATO is measuring 1.026... At this point I'm thinking Dong messed up with calibrating my refractometer. I check 5 more times and realize this is from when my pump back siphoned a bunch of water. Luckily just the night before I had created 30 gallons of ro/di water. I change resevoir and bring salinity down to 1.026. And I put the resevoir higher so it can actually fill the tank. The tube for ato is above the maximum waterline so i had forgotten that event occurred...now let's see how the tanks doing

8/20 how are the corals

So I`ve gotten a bloom. The trochus and hermits are working hard.

The stylo seems to have a lot of retracked pollops on the side where the output of aquaclear is coming from. I'm not really sure why. Usually at night I have a lot of polyop extension on everything but not even the birdsnest. One small tip of the many tips on the birds nest is a little brown, maybe diatoms? Also the lepto seems to be the only coral not showing okay coloration. It has browned a bit even though it's at the bottom portion of the tank

Par readings
Top: 250ish
Lower 3rd 150ish

8/19 fairy wrasse and missing gramma
20190821_115510.jpg

The lfs did not know what wrasse this was and said it was ugly...so I brought it home. The royal gramma and it ignored each other for most part so everything seemed okay.

But now there is no sight of the royal gramma. I have a net top but.... Maybe my cat ate it? I have also realized that this might be a blue sided fairy wrasse.

9/20/2019 big update

I come home and realize that 2 of my corals are starting to bleach but nothing has changed. I check my parameters and all of sudden my nitrates and phospates are at 0. However thanks to the advice of Dong I realize this isnt the full story and check my refugium. The chaeto has started to melt and is releasing toxins in the water. So I turn my refugium off line. However for the next week those 2 coral die off and my nitrates and phospates are stuck at 0 and I believe dinos start to take over my tank and the green coraline on my rocks disappears.

I then decide to add 2 more wrasses but the blue sided is a big bully. I ultimately have to take everything out the tank to catch him and put him in my hob filter/ refugium. I rescape and its actually a way better scape. However dinos continue to take over my tank and nitrates and phosphate stuck at 0. I am feed 3x more than normal at this point. I decided to take the skimmer offline. However to compensate for less gas exchange I turn the HOB back on and guess what happens the next morning?
The snails are ripping the dinos off and for the next few days it dissapears and the green coraline comes back. Turns out I was having a flow problem on the top part of my tank. That's why only those 2 coral in low flow area suffered.

Currently nitrates and phospates are still stuck at 0 but other params are fine. Also I added 9 more banded trochus snails.

I learned that mp20 and jebao version are not enough flow at full power for a 40B.

9/29/2019 new fish

There's not much to add. I'm finally seeing very small amounts of nutrients thanks to reef roids. Also I added a midas blenny and some new corals

Banana Acro from Happy sticks. Super furry with pink tips and a Soft fluorescent teal/green body and brownish purple polyops but some of the polyops have like whitish tips. Not sure if this is normal

20190929_165527.jpg

This link tabling Acro I got a while a go. Nice polyop extension. Only coral that's maintained colorful pink/purple polyops. The others have gone brownish

Are you topping off your tank with rodi water or salt water?

Ro-di. At the time my pump back siphoned salt a few days before and I forgot. Note the date on the post. All this is fixed.
