After two years one my mated pair of snowflake shotgun is aggressive toward the other. Last night I thought they were mating but tonight one is severely hurt with tail bites and faced fins. I isolated the aggressor but the hurt one began to lie on the sandbed. So I put it in the isolation tank and hope Moritz makes it.
temp 77.6
Alk 10.4
na 30 upping now
pH 7.16

I hope he pulls through. Usually, occellaris clowns aren't too aggressive, but it depends on the fish. My female Clarkii sometimes chases and nips at the male, but he always submits. Are you sure it wasn't another fish?

I was watching him nip, nudge and brush against the submissive one. Can't understand why now after 2 years together this happens.

When Clown fish get ready to breed they will often times become extremely aggressive.Sometimes towards one another.Sometimes towards every other fish in the aquarium.Sometimes towards people. It sounds like your pair has recently reached maturity. You might need to medicate if the fish shows signs of fin rot. If the poor guy makes it.

Medicate with what?

That's one of the shotgun snowflakes that's suffering. He just ate some mysis
That's a great shot. Beautiful fish. I wish you the best of luck with him. Best thing I can think of would be to put a box over the iso tank so that it's nice an dark, keep the water warm to help increase him metabolism and shorten the time it takes to heal. I'd also use an antibiotic treatment prophylacticly to ward off any potential in fiction.. Which if something kills him, it would likely be a bacterial infection.

I don't know if you've used garlic in the past, but it's worked for me.. you can try soaking his food in a garlic supplement and adding the antibiotic to it so that he gets a good oral dose to prevent any sepsis. The

OH, also, I forgot to add.. Use an airstone in the tank in addition to any filtration you already use. A good oxygenated environment will help him keep his O2 levels up without having to spend excess energy on pumping more water over his gills.

Sorry this happened. At least it's a good sign he just ate some mysis. Can you post a picture of the injured fish?

There is medications such as furan2 and kanaplex that help prevent bacterial infections on open wound or injury. You can feed these meds and bind them to the food simply by adding seachem focus. In your case though it would be best administered directly through the water column BUT it is not reef safe.

Also in your first post you mention 7.16 PH? Is that accurate?

MORITZ DIED OVERNIGHT due to Max's prior annoyance. I put him in a seclusion box in the display tank but this morning He was dead.
Yes, I've been struggling with pH levels; removed tank cover at filtration chambers, Fresh air in house, aim water nozzle towards top to make waves. I was going to get Chemipure Elite then this friggin happened in the last two days. He died on my 64th birthday.
Now his murderer is by himself. Will he have withdrawal being alone? There are a couple other fish [cardinal, pajama cardinal, goby, dragonete] in the 13G EVO.
Darn it.

Your clown will be fine solo. The tank size might have played a role in the aggression. I have a single clown due to some poor results from breeding. My clown enjoys the company of blennies and gobies.

+1 - You also need to get that PH up. What is the alkalinity, calcium, and magnesiums levels in your aquarium?

Happy Birthday! Sorry for your loss too :(

I'm at work morning the loss and will retest tonight and report here.

Also test calcium and magnesium levels if you can. How long has your tank been setup for?
