Has anyone had experience with owning a fighter conch? I have a crushed coral substrate with some wet sand on the bottom. He was good for 2 weeks, but he wasn't looking so good yesterday, and this morning, he had died and was being eaten by my 2 brittle stars and peppermint shrimp. I am thinking maybe I might have taken out to much detritus when performing water changes to bring down my nitrates, but I am also wondering if the crushed coral substrate was just too rough for him as well. If anyone can confirm or deny that these are the problems I had, please let me know. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

They prefer warmer temperatures (77-81) and soft sand bed as they need a thick sand to burrow or seagrass which is impractical.
If the pH becomes low, the acidity could start to dissolve and weaken their shells.
