Hey folks,
I bought a full setup from another reefer about 4 months ago and have been battling algae the entire time. Here's the stats.
Nitrates: 0
Phosphates: 0
Using RODI with 0 TDS for topoffs and water changes
.2 ML vodka dosing
I skim slightly wet with a tunze skimmer
Running GFO
90G DT with 40G Sump
I'd guess about 90 lbs of rock, maybe more
6 Chromis
2 Clowns
1 Barnacle Blenny
1 Mandarin Goby
1 African leopard Wrass
2 Bartlet Anthias
1 Randall goby
1 tiger pistol shrimp
1 pistol shrimp
CUC has hermits, astraeas, ceriths
I suspect the fish bio load is pretty high for the tank and may be what is causing my issues, I was trying not to part out the livestock from the previous owner, but am open to getting rid of some Chromis to help lighten the load. The Cyano is probably getting fed from the vodka dosing since there's 0 nitrates, I could stop that.
I've scrubbed the rocks that I can get out of the tank of algae, I've done 20% water changes biweekly, I'm manually removing algae by hand weekly off the rocks and sand. My test kits are accurate and fine, I've taken samples to the LFS to double check and they return the same numbers as I do. I know the algae is eating up all the Nitrates and Phosphates which is why it's reading 0. I haven't tried any kind of chemical or dark photoperiod solution yet. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as it's making my pull my hair out.
