Fiji Cube 108 INT w/ 24 gallon sump

Hello!

I’m super excited to show off my 108 gallon fiji cube tank as it grows!

It has been up and running for roughly 6 months now and currently houses 2 clowns (1 black ice and 1 regular ocellaris) from my LFS, tons of live rock (not sure on the exact number of lbs. I ended up actually using, I believe it is roughly 100).

I am using the 24 gallon sump, 5 gallon ATO reservoir, and stand that came with the tank from fiji cube. In the sump, I have bio media (matrix), filter floss, a bio brick seeded with microbacter7, a pod puck for the pod population I’ve been cultivating, and a refugium with chaeto that is lit by a Kessil H80.

I am also very excited as I just received some new additions from biota today! I got a pair of mandarin dragonets, a yellow tang, and a royal gramma basslet. They are currently all in QT and are doing great so far!

I can’t wait to keep this thread updated as I continue building and growing my tank and eventually get into reefing!

Unfortunately the male mandarin died after about 24 hours, I’m not sure what happened to him but I think he just didn’t handle shipping very well as he pretty much hid until he passed. The other 3 fish are all doing great though! They are very active and eating a ton!

Hey there! I have the same tank, but I'm using a Trigger Systems 34 sump and I'm getting a lot of gurgling noise from the return drain into the sump while running. Do you have your return drain and your emergency drain plumbed to the same place? I've tried a lot ways to quiet it down and maybe the only thing I can think of is that the water draining into the sump is possibly causing a vacuum through the emergency piping?

Is the level of water in the return section of the sump too low?

No. The way my trigger sump is made, the return section can only be one level until it overflows into the first main chamber. The water in the overflow is about 1/2" from the emergency overflow pipe

Is this the water entering the sump? If yes, how deep/exit is the pvc pipe into the sump water?

Hi! So I’m pretty new to this and honestly probably not the most reliable resource haha, but an issue I do remember having at the beginning is that I cut my emergency drain pipe too short which resulted in water being splashed/sucked into it which was very loud. After making the emergency drain pipe taller so it was higher above the water line the loud draining stopped.

The pipes for my both my main and emergency drains that drain water from the tank into the sump are plumbed into the same compartment in my sump.

Fish update!

The fish from biota are doing great!! They are all growing like crazy. The mandarin is still pretty small but has definitely grown a lot and has developed a lot more coloration. This week I got some new additions quarantined from Dr. Reef. I got a yellow eye spotted kole tang, helfrichi firefish (this has been on my wish list for awhile!) and 2 banggai cardinals (I only ordered one but they were very generous and sent me an extra!).

So far they are all looking very healthy and eating a ton. There were some issues the first few days with my yellow tang being aggressive towards the kole tang, resulting in some cuts, but I used the mirror trick and added a second nori clip which worked very well and now I only see the yellow go after the kole every once in awhile and he’ll only chase for a few seconds - no attacking! They swim together back and forth between the 2 clips now haha.

I will definitely order from Dr. Reef again in the future, great healthy fish and I didn’t have to mess with quarantining them myself!

I also got my first corals a few months ago, but I will make a separate post for those another time.

Her belly is sunken, she hasn't eaten for a while. She'll likely follow the male unless you figure out how to feed her.
