Has anyone ever put a file fish in your overflow? Thinking of putting one in there to clean up the aptasia in there...screens over the returns (snail blockers) so I’m not worried about that...just didn’t know if anyone had done this...

Without disassembling the plumbing in the over flow can’t think of another way to get all of the aptasia out of there.

Thanks

Peppermint shrimp or nudi's might be a better options

The filefish will die in there, and then you'll have a big chunk of decaying fish-flesh stuck in your overflow. How do I know? Because mine did. Granted, I wasn't trying to put him in there, but in there he was, and then he wasn't.

If you must clean out the aiptasia from there, use either nudis or shrimp. Less likely to die, more likely to get the pests.

Alternately, if you already have an aiptasia-eating filefish in your tank, you can simply leave those aiptasia there. They'll help with filtration (marginally), and your filefish will take care of any aiptasia that spread into the display.

my file fish is evidently partial to frozen and won’t touch the aptasia in my display...which is spreading rapidly...I purchased a copper band a few days ago and hopefully he will clean up the DT...peppermints would work but my marine betta likes to eat them...

I am going to put 2 peppermints in the over flow and see what happens...thank you all for your replies
