Hey. I have a bit of an Aptasia problem. I let it get a little out of hand. It's past the aptasia x point. I've always loved file fish but was nervous about getting one because i know they can sometimes go after soft coral. I need something to help with the aptasia so this is a good excuse to get a filefish. I would love to hear from others who have had one. Did they help with aptasia? Diid they go after coral? Thanks!

I had a bad breakout in both my tanks and got a file fish and within 2 weeks the first tank was cleared and then transfered to the second and within a week that one cleared. That was 2 years ago and both tanks are heavy with LPS and softies and some SPS and it never touched any. I keep it around just in case and it it's frozen mysis and pellets.

We had a pretty bad issue with Aptasia, after trying a laser, aptasia x, and who knows what else we added a file fish, multiple peppermint shrimp, and later berg nudi's. at the end of the day I think it was a combination of the file fish and the peppermint shrimp that did the job. it was a 225 gallon tank and I think I ended up ordering something like 6 of them through out the course of this battle which was about 5 months of time. We also used a butterfly (not copperbanded) I watched the butterfly eat some aptasia, but after some time it grew use to eating the food the tank was fed.

I wish I still had pictures of the tank when the aptasia was crazy, but at that time I was not taking many picture for obvious reasons.

My matted filefish did nothing for my aiptasia...but it certainly got rid of my acan "problem". Bergia nudibranchs will do the trick if you don't have any fish that will eat them all.
