Filefish Help ASAP

We have a filefish that recently got ich. He was so bright and beautiful before and now this. We pulled him and did fresh water dip with a pH of 8.4 and identical tank temperature. He did not handle it well and has been like this all night. Any advice? Even just of something that went wrong. We have a QT but it is currently being used by another fish. It looks as though there is something fuzzy on his tail.

I can’t really see much in the pics. It doesn’t look good from how the fish is on its side. How is the breathing? Can you get a closeup of the tail?

Hes breathing well and will get up and swim for a second. The last picture was pretty clear but with the way it uploads it’s coming out a little fuzzy. I’ll try again!

Did you use a dechlorinator with the water used? Also, was it city water or RO water?
Laying down is not a good sign, however does not signify death either.

It was RO water and no to a dechlorifier. We have done it a handful of times since starting keeping fish a year ago and never had issues though.

If he pops up, unhappy camper that's stressed, try a LITTLE brine shrimp later and see if responds to feeding. If it eats, you can add vitamins, etc
What is tank salinity ?

How long have you had him? Were you just managing the ich or planned on QT?

Better pictures would help for better identification but just in general I'd keep the lights off so reduce stress while he in this condition. I agree with trying to see if he will consume food.
