Morning,

this is a biota CB filefish that was acquired 3 months ago. Seemed to be juvenile when acquired. Three weeks in QT/observation and remainder in a 180 mixed reef

. Has been a typical rep of its species, looking for interesting things to pick at, only thing i have seen it do is pick a a Duncan polyp that was doing poorly for some odd reason, may have been coincidental that it was picking at it.
feeds well and plays well with others.

Noticed this lesion last night. And same this am. Behavior is off, more secretive/cryptic and clearly not interested in food. Could be labored breathing, but honestly did not look at aspect closely before

In close up naked eye, it appears bulbous and translucent distal to the mouth.

Only seen lymphocytis once, and this doesnt look like that

Any ideas/suggestions? Will not be catchable, particularly if its not eating

When you say 'distal to the mouth' - do you mean like its something he ate that is stuck - or do you just mean the lesion is on the tip of its mouth/"lips"?

it looks like
1. An injury?
2. A sting from something it tried to eat - with a blistering.
3. An infection? whether lymphocystis or not.

If you cant catch/medicate the fish - not sure what to do except wait?

What it really looks like - is like a tang that took a piece of drying super glue off a frag I was placing. That fell off. (I assume you would have said something if that were the case lol). it also looks like this to a degree: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/filefish-mouth-injury.368865/

thanks - I mean the "lesion" furthest away from the "lips"
and thanks, I had not considered glue, and indeed I had reattached a frag earlier yesterday.
just went to look at it again with that in mind and can't find it. Now Im feeling really bad...
so 1. and injury, maybe, but doesn't look like it,
2. a sting, could be but the blister is furthest away from the mouth and
3. really does not look like lymphocytis

leaning towards your glue notion

The reason I thought that might not be the case is I thought the 2 pictures were a couple days/longer apart?

Well i have some good news !
IC glue was still sticking to its mouth, it was attempting to feed and could not, and took advantage of its hunger and put in a. Mid-sized trap and on second feeding caught it!
was able to remove the glue, it has some redness around the mouth and popped him back in the tank
as the lights were going tonight, dropped some pellets in his corner, and just picked up its first meal in 4-5 days.
Hope tomorrow is better still

Glad you solved it.
My filefish took a nip at a clam's mantle, clam closed. Filefish stuck for 20 minutes. Had an abrasion for a couple of days

File fish kinda grow on you - hope he makes it

felt like giving him a sticker for making it out of the dentist office
