Hello all! I've had a HOB and canister filter for all of my time with this hobby and just got in my first sump. It's the RUBY30E from Trigger Systems. The display is going to be a 75 gallon sps dominant tank (hopefully). Help me deck this thing out with what I need.

All depends on what system you're going to run. Are you looking to implement a refugium? Or a method such as triton, zeovit, or just regular water changes. Bunch of variables. What's your end goal? That'll help us fill this sump with goodies ;)

I definitely want a refugium! I also plan on dosing 2 part. It looks like it has probe holders in the sump as well im guessing

Yup! I believe it includes probe holders :) so (even though it's not "in" the sump) you'll want a fuge light. Skimmer, heater, return pump (and plumbing) any reactors you'll want to add (If your doing fuge I wouldn't get a gfo or biopellet reactor, it may mess with your macroalgae)

Nice sump ! All kinds of room in there. Ya need a skimmer for sure. Any plans for that?

Should the refugium come before the skimmer?

Mixed reviews. I say skimmer after sump so it doesn't take anything away from your algae. Others will say before. All depends on the sump :) do what you have room for

well let's see, this sump has room for a skimmer for sure. I run my skimmer is the 1st section. There is a bunch of choices out there . I'd shoot for a skimmer rated for twice your total gallons. This will cause some debate. Just make sure it fits in the section. Plus a little room to get your hands in there for work & such. I have a an older reef octopus 200 series on my 75.

Awesome advice guys. Ideas are still more than welcome to flow in!

I guess this question isn't even relevant to this sump now that i have inspected it closer. Here is how it works coming feom triggers site.

"The RUBY30E has 3 main sections. Section 1 is the refugium section. The flow rate through the refugium can be controlled based on the type of algae that is housed there. There are several ways to feed water into the refugium.

Split or use one of the drain lines from the tankTee off from the return pumpUse a small pump that sits inside the sump

If splitting off one of the drains from the tank is the method chosen, then it is recommended to put valves on both lines after the split to control flow. Water flows from the refugium into Section 2.Section 2 is where the water from the main tank enters through the filter socks. This is the section where the protein skimmer typically sits. Water from this section goes over a baffle and through a foam block filter and then under a baffle into Section 3.Section 3 is the return section where the return pump will sit, pumping water back to the display tank."
