Hi everyone,
I'm trying to come up with some good stocking on my 75, fish, nems, inverts and all! I want to iron out compatibility before I make any more purchases. It'll be a reef with softies and LPS, don't think I'll get into SPS seems difficult.
I have in QT

  • 2 Ocellaris clownfish
  • 1 Kaudern's Cardinal
  • 1 Neon goby
    • 1 Cleaner shrimp
    • 1 Peppermint shrimp
    • 6 ghost shrimp
    • 2 unknown crabs
    • 1 halloween hermit crab
    • 1 unknown hermit crab
    • 2 turbo snails
    • 1 reef cleaners package snails and hermits.
I want to get
  • 1 Green Clown Goby
  • 1 Midas blenny or lawnmower blenny (I can't have these together right? They occupy different parts of the tank but I'm assuming it's still a no, are there any other blennies I could get? I love blennies and gobies)
  • 1 Diamond Goby or a goby that would pair with a pistol shrimp (again, any others I could get with some of these?)
  • Tang? Wrasse? Anthias? What else could I put in here that would add some color or action? I really want a tang. I also like the fun colors and movement. Unique things.
    • 1 Cleaner shrimp (2 total)
    • 1 Fire shrimp
    • Another peppermint shrimp?
    • Conch
    • 'Boring Rock Urchin'- reefcleaners (Not until very established and whatnot for these and below)
    • a starfish
    • Anemone- what kind would be best and also host my clowns?
    • What other cool critters could I add?

I love my Midas Blenny and Diamond Goby!
I really love how the midas blenny swims, but I also love how the algae blenny just slinks around the rocks. It's a hard choice. I also want to find an interesting goby, I'm not 100% sold on any particular goby. Aside from the clown of course.

*small* (4" arms) 'perfect' black and white harlequin banded serpent starfish.
You will find plenty of the 2 tone Gray ones but the perfect black-and-white ones are hard to come by.
Waited 2 years before I was lucky enough to find this beauty.

I am currently working on a Royal gramma harem of 6 in our 75 gallon tank.
It is less than 2 weeks old so can't tell anything yet.

Love Long nose hawk fish and flame hawk fish.
But you can't really keep them together so you would have to choose one, or a mated pair from divers den.
Falco's are neat too, but I love the color and personality of the flame and the color, shape and personality of the long nose.

Our flame angel died. (It was a jerk. I miss it but not the personality)
Planning on waiting for a flame wrasse instead of replacing the flame angel.

Avoid dottybacks like the plague for now, and 99% of damsels.
You can always screw up your tank later.
Amazingly beautiful fish, but wow, what a horrible personality.

Wow that is such a cool star, it feels like an optical illusion. I heard Royal gammas could kinda be jerks and I've been warned to stay away from damsels and some dotty backs. I'll avoid them then. I also like the hawkfish but I seem to remember there was a compatibility issue with one of my choices. I'll have to look into it agin those ones are cool looking.

I have a green clown goby, they small so the dont really affect your bioload.
That's what LFS said about the green clown goby and the neon goby so they're definitely on the list. I looked at your puffer on Live Aquaria and it says that they may eat inverts, and that you also need to feed them shelled things to keep their beak worn so as much as I'd love the little guy I'm not going to be in a place to be feeding clams and whatnot regularly.

They say that about all puffers.;) I get clams from the grocery store, freeze them, and once a week throw in a half. What Puffy does not eat my crabs and Tang eat. Another good one is a yellow clown goby. Mine is out and active much more than my green goby, who hangs out in the Kenya tree all day. A royal gamma will had some nice color, as well as a blue green chromis.

You have a yellow clown goby in the same tank as a green clown goby? How's that work, I figured that I'd have to pick just one of them since they're virtually the same aside from well the color. What size tank is yours again? 75 too right?

Id go Midas over the algae blenny 100% of the time. Algaes hide to much and are to drab in my book. Royal Grammas are a great choice! A group of zebra bar gobies are would do well with what you've mentioned. Find yourself a wrasse you like to pit in towards the end of your fish load. I also love the look and behavior of the pearly jawfish.

Also keep your I on the "unkown" hermit crabs you have. Some have a bigger claw, like the zebras and the electric blue, and I've seen them pull up zoanthids and other polyps with it. Luckily they are easy to catch. haha

My unknown Hermit is a New Jersey native, he does have on bigger claw but he's a model citizen most of the time. He likes to sit on my frags sometimes, but he doesn't pick at them. He just spent several days sitting on top of my GSP colony which is still a bit ticked off but other than that he's fun. Likes to try on all sorts of shells. He's about 1-1.5 inches maybe? I've had to stop him from bothering a snail once because the snail had gotten a food pellet that he wanted even though he already had a mouth and a claw full of his own the greedy little bugger.
I'm reading more about wrasse and I'm thinking that I might like to work something out with them, I think I prefer the look of anthias but they seem to be more difficult to feed.
Anybody know how a tang would get on with a wrasse?

yep I have 75 gallon. I think there is enough difference in the gobies that they don't have issues. If you Google pics you can see the difference. Also here is a good video about the yellow goby.

Neon goby? Orange and blue?

If I could find someone to second the double clown gobies that would be amazing! I love those little guys, LFS had them both in a tank together, but they told me I should really only go with a neon or a clown and the neon is more active so I went with that, I now learned I could have a neon and a clown but the the thought of two clown gobies ;Drool I just really love the weird perching sort of fish

Tangs and wrasses should get along just fine. In a 75 you'll need to stick with a zebrasoma or ctenochaerus tang and for the wrasse Id go with a Cirrhilabrus sp. My personal favorites are the solarensis or the Scott's fairy. If you try an anthias go with the Lyretail, I've had luck with them. I've had 3 or 4 over the years and only one of them needed to be fed live brine before accepting frozen. I would say 2-3 daily feeding is a must with them though.

It is good you are doing research on what gets along. I am very cautious when adding a new fish. I want to make sure they all get along and won't get to big for my tank. Just don't add to many fish at one time.
