Hello everyone. I just assembled my new Red Sea Peninsula 500. Did you take the step of filling the tank completely (with tap water?) to test for plumbing leaks prior to filling with RODI saltwater? Is this step STRONGLY recommended? Debating myself if truly necessary with a brand new tank. Thanks
I did not test fill with tap, I did double check all plumbing before filling. I’m not familiar with Red Sea but the only places I’ve had leaked is from needing to tighten bulk heads further
I do fill all of my brand new tanks with tap water and let run overnight just to verify everything works properly and there is no plumbing leaks. I have never been concerned about the actual tank leaking though.
normally a reputable company like Red Sea, they have done QC for the product they sold. However us consumer have to assemble piping. Sometimes it's the bulkhead fittings, or cementing pvc pipes or connection between pvc pipe and hose or knocking the tank to wall at joints while moving/mounting tank.
The plumbing on RedSea tanks is delicate. Prone to leaks. I always use silicon plumbing grease on the o-rings.
I didn’t do a test fill. Filling with RODI is a good idea.
