A few weeks ago I was getting a green film algae build up on my glass that needed cleaning every day. I was quite happy with this as I always associate green with a healthy ecosystem.
But in the last week, the film algae has changed color to brown that needs cleaning once every 3 days.
As someone who battled dinos for 6 months, anything brown in my display scares the heck out of me.
My nutrient levels are always low. Nitrates never go above 2.5 and phosphates stay just about measurable on my Salifert test kit.
I dose nitrates and phosphates a couple of times a week or my levels drop to zero.
What could cause the film algae to change from green to brown?
