I've been dealing with hair algae. I had some nasty gunk on my tank, not thick but made the glass cloudy and I could see on the sides it was orange. I hadn't cleaned my glass in a couple of days. Cleaned it off very easily with my scraper. It's orange and gross. Came off in little...rolled up film gunk. Is this a normal glass algae? I know my LFS has yucky glass algae, but their tanks are always disgusting.

Yeah, that is common when the glass is not cleaned. Do you have any snails to help you so it does not become so thick?

My hermits keep killing my snails. I have at least 3 hermits and I just introduced a mexican turbo snail and they killed it. I went tonight and bought a huge golf ball sized turbo snail, so I'm hoping he will help.

Have you checked your nutrients?

Phosphates should be between .02 to a .03 and your nitrates around 3 to 5 ppm.

How old is the system?

It may be a good decision to remove the killer hermits. My hermits will kill for a shell once in awhile but that’s it. Can you sumo them?

Your tank is beautiful. Try to see the life and beauty in the algae. It will make the phase easier. During my ugliest I had moments I want to give up and wouldn’t look at the tank.
