Film on water surface. Help!

Hey guys been having some water surface film latley, for the past few months now. Wondering how to get rid of it. Tank is a 40 gallon breeder, running a Aquaclear 70 powerfilter and Cpr BakPak skimmer for filtration. I know surface circulation sometimes helps for this but its not working for me, i tried aiming my koralias up to the surface to break the surface a bit but doesnt seem to help much , the film just builds around it. Can this film do bad ? it sure looks terrible, what you guys think ?

Check your chemical filtration and any pads you have in the filter. This happen a lot to people with overflows that run the sponge filtration on the top of the return pipes, they get cloggeg and prevent the right right amount of water to flow to the overflow, its kind of stagnant water. Just my two cents, hope it helps you fix the problem

my Cpr BakPak has black plastic sponge at the top of the return before the water runs back into the tank, i use it to help catch bubbles from the skimmer. i actually havent changed the sponge since ive owned the skimmer for a lil over a year now, i just usually rinse it off with the hose. imma try replacing it with brand new sponge see if it helps. I just this morning removed most of the surface film with laying paper towels on the surface and it took the film out , well most of it. lets see if it returns
