Filter advice.

Alright guys its time to upgrade my filter. Currently on my 46gal bowfront im using an api external canister. I know its not enough and i finally have some extra money coming in to replace it.

What do you guys recommend?

Why upgrade your canister? Just upgrade your skimmer, that'll work better. Unless your dosing something that you need the canister to remove, no reason to use one.

Canister is leaking a bit. And its only rated for a 55.

My skimmer is both a protein skimmer and a biological filter so it may be a good idea to upgrade that too just a protein skimmers is then

I use a canister, but I use it to remove bound phosphates from my tank. 2in1 skimmers don't work, you need to look for one rated for twice your total water volume, then you'll see what they really can do.
